MXC Design was hired by a couple seeking a complete transformation of their outdated and cramped kitchen. The husband, an avid cook, wanted a space that was both functional and inviting. The original layout included dark cabinets, the kitchen was separated from the dining space by a peninsula, which made the room feel closed-in and inefficient.
During the initial consultation, Ximena took the time to understand the couple's desire for ample prep space, modern appliances, and an open, social layout.
To open the space and improve flow, the designer proposed removing the peninsula with a central island. The new island features waterfall edges in quartz offering generous counter space and seating that encourages interaction while cooking. This central feature became the focal point of the room, anchoring the modern aesthetic with clean lines, additional storage, and minimal hardware.
To further enhance function and style, the designer utilized the wall to the right of the island to create a custom bar area. This includes beautifully lighted glass shelves, a wine fridge, and built-in storage for liquor, making it ideal for entertaining guests or unwinding with a drink after dinner.
The result was a bright, open-concept kitchen and dining area that combines form and function- tailored perfectly to the client's needs, especially the ability to entertain their large family.
