A sculptural glass and steel structure rises from native grasses on this site overlooking Lake Austin.
The house is a three-story glass and steel box, with carefully crafted amendments to create its sculptural quality. Standing-seam paint grip and copper roofing materials encase the solid volume, which forms the back of the upper floors and houses the stairwell and private spaces. Its small glass openings provide natural light during the day and animate the façade at night. The main three-story volume contains the living areas on the ground floor and bedrooms above. It required a minimal steel structure that would be exposed as part of the design. Windows and doors were then inserted into the steel frame. Don Crowell Builders also built a road to the site to accommodate the construction access. Foot access from the main house is via a bridge over the lagoon on the property.
