Rose Garden San Jose
Rose Garden Project Description
The client asked us to design a white garden with french influences which would relate to the architecture of the 1920's home. We designed the entry garden with detailed brick walls and iron gates through which an antique granite path leads visitors to the entry courtyard. The focal of the entry courtyard is a large pond filled with white water lilies and shimmering gold fish. A limestone seat wall edges the pond and provides informal seating. For the center element we found a large antique urn and filled it with seasonal flowers.
A side path leads to the library garden, a quiet space for relaxation and reflection. For this area we included several pieces of antique sculpture as well as an antique wall fountain.
The main bluestone terrace was designed to serve large groups while still being in scale with the home and creating a sense of intimacy through elements such as the spectacular outdoor fireplace, antique urns and sculpture and the central sycamore which divides up spaces for different seating areas. Iceberg roses surround the main terrace and climbing Sally Holmes roses espalier twenty feet up the walls giving an old world feel to the space.. The pool area also in bluestone was designed to have plenty of lounging area for guests. The raised spa with angel relief details between the water spillways was designed to be visible from the entertaining areas as well as from the house. Another large pond with heron water feature provides the focal point at the end of the pool as viewed from the house. For the children we included a play house, boulder sand play area and custom swings.
