Rustic Feature Wall

An empty living room alcove was turned into a rustic, contemporary media wall. I designed this wall to fit around an existing entertainment cabinet. The wall is a combination of drywall shelves/niches, stone columns and reclaimed timber. The timber shelves started as rough hewn, western cedar lumber that I sanded down, gave the surface a slightly distressed treatment, then stained and lacquer finished. The columns were framed in, drywalled and covered with decorative stone. Small spot lighting was used to illuminate display pieces and a pair of unique, cast iron candle sconces framed the opening. A new 60" flat screen tv was mounted to the wall. The result is an asymmetrical design that is as dramatic as it is balanced and functional and is now the focal point for the room.
