Rustic Transitional Galley Kitchen

At first glance, this spacious galley style hunting lodge kitchen looks quite simple with the Shaker cabinet style. It is a beautifully functional space designed to cook for some hearty appetites. Two unlikely styles work together nicely – a rustic space encapsulated with rich warm pine on the ceilings and walls provides a great textural backdrop for the smooth Shaker style painted cabinets from KITH KITCHENS –the unique contrast brings out the best in both styles.

However, don’t let the appearance of simplicity fool you; there’s much more than what meets the eye. All cabinets and drawers are soft close. Many hidden features add to the ease of use in the space – these features include: rollout shelving, pullout double trash and recycle bins, a pullout spice rack, and utensil dividers in the oversized drawers.

Not shown in the photos, but included, is a narrow pullout pantry for canned goods and cereal boxes. The wall cabinets extend to the ceiling using a stacked cabinet and built up crown molding - this works well in either a 9’ or 10’ ceiling space. To achieve this look in a 9’ ceiling space a 48” H overall cabinet (30” with an 18” cabinet stacked on top); if the space is 10’ H, a 42” cabinet with an 18” cabinet stacked works well – as in this case, a wide cove molding with a piece between the cabinet and molding carries the wall cabinet section on to the ceiling.

The upper section of the wall cabinets have glass front doors with a finished interior. LED tape lighting has been used on the interior to give an ambient glow to the space in the evenings. The LED under counter modular lighting system by Adorne is tucked away neatly behind a light rail on the bottom of the wall cabinets. This system includes electrical plugs which are incorporated in to the light bars preventing those unsightly plugs and switches from hindering the beauty of the glazed 3x6 subway tile backsplash.

The commercial style appliances such as the 48” stainless steel gas range and matching range hood, single bowl fireclay apron front farm sink with the high arched faucet, as well as double dishwashers and oversized refrigerator will accommodate cooking for a large crowd!
