Scituate Farmhouse
Looking for "good bones" in the right neighborhood, this couple decided to transform a traditional Garrison Colonial into a coastal home with a Cape Aesthetic in Scituate.
Per most Garrison Colonials this home had the awkward bump at the front second floor, compartmentalized on the first floor and good size bedrooms on the second floor, but with no master suite. Fortunately this home was well built and cared for. The client, a builder himself, sought to transform the home and add space to create a mudroom area for a growing family and a much needed master suite.
The design creates an open connections from the kitchen to living and kitchen to dining and the not to be forgotten flow of kitchen to the outdoor patio. The use of traditional canopies and farmer's porch allowed for a reinvigorated vocabulary for the house. The second floor of the addition made for vaulted ceilings in master suite for a comfortable bedroom with fireplace, large walk-thru closet and dressing area and master bath with his and her vanities. Natural light was a requirement from the start and the new addition allowed for more light in the dining room, spilling into the kitchen and new windows and doors to the backyard to create a bright, airy visual connection. A new bathroom, laundry rooms and renovated bedrooms completed the renovation to create their new home.
