Seaside House

Classic, shingle style, waterfront beach house in Seaside Park, NJ built in 1940 purchased as a summer getaway for a successful, young NYC family. The existing home was in desperate need of an interior renovation to bring in more light and air. Courtney Lowry Architect provided a full interior kitchen alteration by relocating the basement stair from the kitchen to the front area of the home. In addition, the first floor full bathroom off the kitchen, built-in breakfast area, and butler’s pantry were also updated. The existing opening between the kitchen and formal dining was widened to create a larger entertaining space. The existing stained wood wall paneling throughout was removed, the floors were refinished, and new walls painted a light color to bounce around more natural light. We also altered the master bathroom on the second floor by utilizing space from the existing second walk-in closet providing for a much larger shower and double vanity which evokes the feeling of a relaxing hotel bathroom.

The once dark wood paneled dining room was updated with bright white paint and a large opening was incorporated between the kitchen and dining room. This view is looking into the front living room.
Renovated Dining Room
The existing dark paneling was painted white to give all the rooms in the house a bright, beachy feel, full of light. This is the perfect space to cozy up to on a chilly summer evening along the ocean.

The brick fireplace was updated with a fresh coat of white paint. The dark stained wood paneled walls were also painted to brighten up the space and save money by not replacing with sheetrock.

This once dark enclosed porch on the front of the house facing the ocean was refinished and became one of the most used rooms in the house. No architectural changes were made, just updated finishes and furniture.

Refinished interior stair to second floor. The new basement stair was relocated to just below this stair freeing up well needed space in the kitchen for a beautiful open renovation.
