Simpsonville Kitchen Facelift

This kitchen was well laid out and spacious but was showing its age in design elements as well as wear and tear. The cabinets were refinished in soft gray with a black glazing while the island and built in desk were painted black and topped with a cement gray quartz. New pendant lights, a stylish stainless sink and faucet and striking bar chairs completed the new look.

The kitchen was functional but dated. Clearly, the 'builder grade" chandelier needed to go!

These LED compatible mercury glass pendant lights are a focal point in the kitchen. A dimmable switch was installed to control light levels. LED bulbs with a "cool" rating were selected for a whiter light so that the silver sheen of the mercury glass would be highlighted.

Here you can see how worn the paint had become. This hardware was not ugly but the homeowner wanted a new look. Something as simple as changing hardware can give a room an whole new look. There were 53 cabinet knobs in this kitchen!

Another view of the kitchen. Note how the black outlet on the end of the island doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. This is small design choice that can make a big difference.

The fabric backed leather swivel chairs are as comfortable as they are beautiful. The fabric lends softness to the space while the swoop design of the chairs echos the shape of the pendant lights above.

It was time to phase out the shiny brass and cream colored sink.

The grohe faucet echos the linear cabinet hardware and the handles on the refrigerator and dishwasher. The top of the faucet pulls out as a sprayer.

The original granite remained on this long counter. A deep double bowl stainless sink replaced the cream colored porcelain sink.

This sink came with great removable accessories. Here you can see the cutting board (which keeps disposal mess where it should be) and the drying rack rolled to the side.

Here the drying rack and cutting board are shown in place. They rest in a little ledge on the edge of the sink. Both items are removable when not in use.
