Tez Marble stocks more than 400 colors of stone slabs in all types of stone available – Granite, Marble, Limestone, Quartzite, Slate, Onyx, and even man-made slabs known as quartz. Slabs are quarried out of mountains or underground and cut into huge blocks from all around the world in such places as Italy, Brazil, Spain, Turkey, Portugal, India, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, China, Mexico, South Africa, Germany, Australia and more. The blocks are then sent to a finishing plant where it is then cut down into sheets. Once they are cut into the various shapes and sizes, the face is then finished into a polished, honed, flamed, brushed, hammered, leathered, etc. product. Why would one choose a slab vs pre-fabricated countertop? The answer is quite simple – the look.

Granite
The only natural stone harder than granite are diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. Therefore, granite will give you permanence, enduring color and texture, and complete freedom from deterioration and maintenance. Granite is the traditional favorite of countertop material for its unique colors and patterns, proven durability and lasting value.
Granite has performed second best to stainless steel in ability to resist bacteria. The hardest natural material available for countertops, it is composed of a variety of minerals such as quartz, feldspar, and mica. Granite is an excellent choice not only for beauty, but for its durability and ease in cleaning.
Marble
Marble has veining mineral deposits to make up its natural beauty. It always adds a feeling of elegance to any room. Although Marble is relatively hard but not as hard as granite, it can be used for all applications – countertops, flooring, bar-tops, backsplash, etc. Marble is a stone that has a timeless beauty.
Travertine
Travertine is a sedimentary rock that is formed in hot springs and is sometimes referred to as “travertine marble” or “travertine limestone”. Travertine is similar to limestone in mineral composition (Calcium Carbonate), but is uniquely characterized by natural cavities in its surface and the various patters available. Travertine can be cut in a “vein cut” to expose the linear patterns of the natural bedding planes. It can also be cut in a “fleuri cut” or “cross cut”, which exposes a more random and subtle flowery pattern. The small cavities are inherent in all travertine and is filled with an epoxy filler to give a smoother more durable surface; however, for some applications an unfilled travertine will create an aesthetically interesting and unusual surface finish.
Most commonly seen in tiles for indoor or outdoor flooring, travertine comes in a variety of earthy tones complete with a delicate look. Dimensional travertine is also available for use as vanity tops, fireplace surrounds, exterior cladding, and a host of specialty items such as sinks and light switch plates. Travertine is also available in various building stone formats such as “splitface” ashlar or rubble veneer. The most popular finish is the honed finish or matte finish.

This stone is generally most uniform in texture, pattern, and grade than other natural stone. Limestone weathers naturally over time and its color mellows and blends into a natural patina. Some find that Limestone actually improves with age. The popular application for limestone is the fireplace surround, and ideal for flooring—especially in the bathroom and shower. The ability of limestone to readily adapt to various architectural styles, along with its pleasing natural color, ease of shaping, and its durability are advantages that have all worked together to maintain the stone’s popularity throughout the years.

Slate is a metamorphic rock that is dense, strong, acid resistant, and non-absorptive. It is impervious to freeze/thaw cycles and has been used in construction for thousands of years. It is the material of choice for discerning architects, designers, contractors and builders. Slate comes in a variety of colors, including black, gray, green purple and red. Many slates are available with mottling of more than one color and some of these slates include a color weathering characteristic which adds warm earth tone hues. In addition, some slates imported from India and South America can yield metallic tones of gold and copper. Most commonly used for interior floor surfaces or exterior landscaping, slate also serves as a durable and stain resistant pool coping, shower enclosure, paver, and building cladding.
