Small Kitchen Remodel

Small U-shaped condo kitchen remodel including 100% demo, ceiling height and soffit reconfiguration, new cabinets, countertops, flooring, lighting, appliances. The ceiling was raised and the cabinetry runs all the way to it in order to add to the feeling of height in the small space.

A warm creamy gray was chosen for the cabinetry with a complementary gray/beige ceramic tile floor in 18" brick pattern.

New can lighting was installed for key work areas and individual controls were used for general can lighting, peninsula cans, pottery niche and under cabinet lighting.

Soffits were incorporated into the cabinetry to create height in the small space. A lighted niche was included over the sink to display pottery. The door to the garage was modified to replicate the look of the cabinetry.

A streamlined, clean look was utilized to update the feel of the entire condo. Plug strips were used at the base of the cabinets so no plugs would be visible in the back splash.

Custom cabinets and panels to the ceiling allowed us to hide the fact that the staircase to the second floor is behind the pantry (angled ceiling in the corner). The 'telephone and calendar' niche is to the left of the refrigerator.

The back door was modified to reflect the design of the cabinetry and a panel was added above it to allow us to continue the flow throughout the room.

To the right of the refrigerator, we capitalized on what was formerly a bar facing the living room. We created a step-in coffee bar area to help the space feel larger, especially when rounding the corner from the living room into the kitchen. It also serves to 'hide' the coffee bar from the main...

We changed the refrigerator order as soon as we found this Samsung with recessed handles! You reach into a cut-out to open the doors...the handles sticking out on a normal refrigerator are eliminated...giving us a more 'flush' appearance in the small space.

Using Command Strips, my client hung artwork she loves to add color, dimension and depth to the space. The niche above the sink has a separate night-light dimmer control so highlight her pottery.

Blanco under-mount sink. Plug strips at the base of the upper cabinets eliminated the need for plugs in the backsplash giving us a streamlined look. A counter disposal switch eliminated the need for a switch plate on the back splash as well.

The photo is one of my client's favorites, taken by her son. It adds a note of interest and depth behind the sink. Above, she displays her favorite pottery. The niche lighting is controlled separately so it can be kept on, dimmed, at night.
