This Norwood property underwent a total renovation, from a blah space that had severe drainage problems to a perfectly constructed outdoor living space ready to entertain. The homeowners approached us looking for a few key items. A sleek pool to cool off in during the summer months, a grill island, an outdoor dining area and a wood-burning fire pit. All of this surrounded by large screening plants that create a private oasis blocking off the view into neighboring yards.

The first step in the design process was solving the drainage issues on the property. Our team installed a large 1,000 gallon drywell to collect the excess water on the property and allow it to percolate back into the soil. Next, our team went on to draft multiple layouts for where the pool, grill island, and firepit would be located. These drafts were presented to the homeowner and they ultimately decided on a layout which best suited their needs. Then it was time to start selecting materials and begin construction. We worked closely with Easton Pools in designing the pool and we then installed a beautiful granite coping around the pool. Besides the sleek and modern design of the pool, one of our favorite features is the automatic cover that is conveniently hidden and retracts into the end of the pool when not in use. This ensures the pool stays clean and clear from debris. This all happens seamlessly at the press of a button.

The grill island and dining area sit under a custom pergola which provides shade during those summer days and allows for lights to be mounted to illuminate from above. This ensures that even after the sun goes down the entertainment can continue. We love this grilling area, it is a true backyard barbecuers’ dream! The high-end appliances are both aesthetically pleasing and make sure that your steak is cooked evenly every time. The grill island also includes a mini-fridge to keep beverages ice cold and easily accessible, an ice chest built into the countertop is extremely functional for parties and replaces the need for a cooler. A custom templated granite countertop beautifully tops off this grill area. One other unique feature of this grill area is the overhang on the countertop that allows for bar seating. This allows for additional seating when there is a large number of guests or acts as a casual place to hang out and chat with the grillmaster.

The firepit is constructed out of Unilock Estate block and is capped with natural granite. Integral under cap lights illuminate the firepit with a soft, warm glow and are controlled via a phone app by the homeowner. It was a strategic decision to place the firepit next to the dining area so the warmth could be felt even while eating dinner. This place becomes extra cozy at night with all the lights on and a roaring wood-burning fire.
