This typical split level plan has been updated to create a WOW factor when you open that front door. Compartmentallized spaces as shown in the before sketch were completely removed giving us the whole main floor to work with. Recessing a beam to support the ceiling allowed us to tray the living room defining spaces with columns and volume. The oversized island acts as a piece of furniture and is pulled in from the transition line of the living room to allow for barstools to remain a part of the kitchen even when in use. A screen porch was added by converting the original kitchen window to a door and the double window in the old dining room to become the kitchen window providing a pass-thru to the porch. New railings for the stairs and overlook to the den on the lower level changed the entire look of the original space.
