This project was designed with the homeowners to make use of an odd shaped space between walkways to the boat dock on this property. We wanted to use the mature trees in the plan and since the area was downgrade from the house, we had to accommodate a great deal of rain runoff that followed the sidewalk down. We also wanted a movable fireplace so the area would be more versatile. The result was a rustic and comfortable spot made from all natural materials including original Norfolk, VA cobblestones for the border. We created a drywell to collect rain runoff in the larger rock section at the top and used a blend of many color angular stones for the floor. Large slabs of natural shaped flagstone create a "rug" effect to add interest and break up the space. This is a great space to enjoy the fire, have a cocktail or just chill out.
