If, when a visitor walks thru the front door and says ‘oh my’ or ‘wow’ and the
homeowner can enjoy a stunning elevated views over Sweeney Lake of Wirth
Park and the Minneapolis skyline from almost anywhere in the house, then
the design team has done its job. This house is about matching an expansive
interior volume with an equally bold site experience. The interior experience is
an unexpected surprise after walking up to a low slung modern front.
Simplify, simplify, simplify….edit, edit, edit…was the overarching design
principle for the design of this new modern home sitting on the crest of a hill
overlooking Sweeney Lake in Golden Valley, MN. The homeowner, a designer,
set the tone for the home, inspired by his interest in mid century modernism.
The design process was a collaborative and iterative process of homeowner
initiated sketches and design team refinements thru a series of back and forth
edits and refinements.
The house is a simple white stucco box resting on an exposed concrete base
with expansive areas of glass providing floor to ceiling views of the lake. A cool
palette of white walls and concrete are punctuated with warm wood walls and floors.
