The Button Factory Backsplash
This kitchen tile was created for a period home that was located on site of a nineteenth century button factory. The clients wished to have the button discards incorporated into the design. The cooktop mural is a recessed shelf with a simple field of the button material. It is surrounded by an extruded frame of red brick clay. The field tile was pressed in my workshop and fired with a clear glaze. The color was a real compliment to the soap stone counters. I also created accent tiles that displayed arrangements of the button material. The house is located in Connecticut and I believe that the material came from the Philippines. Fun project, nice folks.
