This is a conceptual study for a beach house in Carlsbad, Ca., located where the dolphins surf and play. Sitting 100 feet above the blue Pacific Ocean the inspiration for this home are the crashing waves below. The existing home was built in the early 1960’s with several subsequent additions throughout the years. The owners wanted something new; a fresh look that would include a gallery at the entrance to display the wife’s metal sculptures. For this reason turned copper metal was used on the roof and garage door. The teal patina contrasts nicely with the beige stucco and blue inset glass blocks. The curved rear wall of the main floor rolls back to soften the distinction between interior and exterior, while the built-in furniture seems organically connected to the house.
