The Simple Life

This 1,200 ft² home fits right in to its surroundings on the Great Plains. It was designed for a single owner who didn't want a house that required tremendous upkeep. From the outside, the low pitch and shed roof on the front porch give it an un-assuming feel. However once you walk inside, the vaulted spaces feel anything but ordinary or cramped.

The siding, deck, and ceiling are all conventional finishes. The timber frame wall on the front porch was fabricated using Douglas-fir timber posts and beam. All fastening of the timber frame was done using authentic mortise and tenon joinery.

The natural golden brown tones of the White Oak timber frame contrast very nicely with both the white drywall and white tongue and groove walls inside the house. Using barn style lighting certainly gives it a very cozy charm.

The ceiling is made up of unfinished 1x6 yellow pine tongue and groove boards laid between the timber frame and the structural insulated panels on the roof.

The flooring and cabinets are all distressed Hickory supplied by other companies. Our finished product is the White Oak timber frame supporting the house. It's a simple design using one ridge and a common rafter roof system.
