The Elite Metal Group was instructed to create a new steel roof structure that sits seamlessly on top of a reinforced concrete frame blending a historic building and new multi-use build together as one.

The development aimed to create 9 new homes and 9,500sqft of high-quality flexible workspace for small business offices and co-working spaces as well as workshop studios. Each new home was designed to be unique with an emphasis on outdoor living with each home having a private balcony and access to an outdoor rooftop garden. The site is steeped in history and has housed The Crown public inn with a yard, coach house and stables during the 18th & 19th Centuries. During this time, it also served as an agent for Charles Henry Swaker’s company which operated between 1844 – 1923 until its closure due to Prohibition laws making alcohol illegal across America. This new development named “Swakers’ Yard” is a tribute their family’s legacy.

With decades of experience in supplying structural steel, we are well versed when it comes to accuracy which was the most significant challenge of this project. For this reason, the Elite Surveying Team deployed their Trimble SX12 GPS surveying system at the very start of the project to undertake an in-depth survey on this historic building. This industry leading survey allowed the Elite Team to return to their Design Studio to create drawings and plans knowing with absolute certainty the exact location of the steel anchors which would support the new steel roof structure.
