Too Close for Comfort

This deck transformation created a beautiful space for entertaining and container gardening. The original screen wall was 5" tall and closed the space in. We expanded the deck, reduced the screen wall, added built in planter, and the final touch, a pergola for shade.

We expanded the deck to accommodate a larger dining area. We added enough space for a build in planter and flower basket groupings as well. The pergola provides some sun protection and makes the space more intimate. The low screening wall provides some privacy and encloses the space nicely.

The afternoon sun made this living space unbearable. With the pergola we have filtered the sun and made the space more intimate.

This private deck area was a bit too tight, very hot in the summer, and stale. We expanded the deck, modified the wall to be shorter and added an overhead structure to provide shade and intimacy. We also created planters and places for pots to soften and color up the space.
