Our Design-Build team worked on this traditional cape which included removing a load bearing wall between the existing kitchen and dining room to give way to a spacious island. Our clients main priorities were space, light, storage and maintaining a traditional "cape" feel to their home. By providing them with a structural steel beam we were able to unify the ceilings without interruption and giving them that updated "open concept" feel to their space. One major request was to find a space for a "mud room" area and a place to store shoes, backpacks and jackets which was incorporated into a corner of the kitchen, tucked out of the way and easily accessible to the kitchen entryway.
