Traditional Office
After traveling to Downtown Savannah to conduct an in depth consultation, I fell in love with this restored historic townhome. Its original hardwood floors, tall ceilings and interior shutters drew me in. The architectural elements in the space were very grand. With every project my goal is to enhance the existing architectural elements if it is indeed impactful. The walls had been painted over several times. I wanted to select a scheme that appeared to be original to the space, neither old nor new but simply owned the room. At first sight I knew the lobby had the potential to shine. The chandelier was over 50 years old and original to the space. Due to the lack of natural light the lobby felt really narrow and dark. There was a pinkish brown color on the walls embellished with framed art placed sporadically. There was also brown carpet that again helped to make the room appear very heavy and deserted. It was crowded with many different furniture styles and needed to be completely cleansed and simplified. The design inspiration expressed by the client include modern interpretations of graffiti walls and the Brooklyn train. After a few exercises to successfully interpret the clients preferred design style, we ended up with a very traditional rustic chic office. Go figure.
