When the homeowners of this 1950's ranch in Morristown, NJ decided their kitchen needed an update, they opted to change out their dated vinyl tile flooring in favor of a more fashion forward hardwood floor.

Since the house is traditional, their choice of a wider plank with a subtle hand-scrape bridged the gap between a truly rustic scraped floor and the 2-1/4 standard oak that exists throughout the rest of the house.

Getting away from oak altogether and using the less grainy species of sweet gum, allows the new floor to make a subtle statement that doesn't compete with the uba tuba counters or glazed cabinets. The room is not especially bright, so they chose a color with some golden hues that give the floor a brightness. The brown tones also bring out the chocolate glaze on the ivory cabinets.

The final result is a warm, rich floor that enhances this traditional kitchen with touches of modernity and style.
