Our clients were a family of four whose house was old and drafty and half of the living space was in the basement. They wanted to do an extensive remodel and we decided that for the money there was better value in demolishing the house down to the existing floor framing and building a new two story house on the existing foundation. This allowed us to use 10" thick double stud walls for exceptional energy efficiency and give them nice clean finishes as well as keeping all the living space above ground. They let us drive a lot of the decisions in order to keep costs down and function high. In the end the got a warm, clean, bright and comfortable new home with low heat bills.
