Located across the street from Lake Michigan on a steep hill, local codes dictated the massing of this compound. To preserve views of the lake from the backyard and to reduce the scale of the home, the garage and guest quarters were separated from the main structure.
Kasal, Michiana
Tree removal and creek restrictions helped nestle this home into the site. The exterior design takes cues from the log sided homes in the area. The garage/barn is connected to the main house with a board and batten covered bridge painted bright red.
Camp Cherokee, Indiana
This is one of the two cottages built on adjacent lots a few blocks from Lake Michigan. The architecture recalls the simple camps in the area with low roof lines, log and board and batten. The large screen porch overlooks the swimming pool.
Williams Court Cottages, Union Pier
Tucked in behind a Lake Michigan dune, a new pool and pool house dictated updating the existing 1970's style of the main house. Contrasting light and dark masses unite the two structures as well as an expanded deck/bridge, landscaping to preserve the dune and new drive court.
Wildwood Camp, Michigan
Dune preservation restricted the foot print of the new pool and pool house. The stair structure cantilevers over the dune to pick up some more space. Contrasting colors/materials add a grandness to the small structure.

A 1950's ranch home was transformed to an elegant beach house. The blue and white checkerboard tiled fireplace wall is the highlight of the new great room (unless you look out the french doors to Lake Michigan).
