Victorian Ironback Chair

The iron back chair was developed by the Victorians to add comfort to the chair and to create more interesting shapes in the back. The challenge for the upholsterer is that there is no wood on the back to tack or staple to, thus all of the stuffing and fabric must be hand stitched into place. I think it is worth it though, don't you?
