An almost-square kitchen presented the challenge of designing and fabricating new cabinets providing ample storage in a small space. The goal was to retain the simplicity of the space & the airy feeling of the high ceilings while adding all the storage features and efficiency of a contemporary kitchen.
A custom designed pine-board end cabinet is a nook for a wine cooler. The tall counter top cabinet is faced with vintage glass and houses an appliance garage at the base for the Breville toaster and Bodum coffee grinder.
Pickled spruce wall boards transition into distressed black mission-style cabinets via a beautiful cream, black and bronze Juperana Delicatus granite countertop that turns the corner into an island with a Wolf gas cooktop and Zephyr island vent.
The kitchen floor is wide-plank Southern heart pine, in a dark walnut stain and a matte varnish in a nod to the wood floors in farm kitchens of the past.
