The homeowner had 3 primary requests: she wanted a large island with bar stools, better cooktop, and a lighter color. She also had a limited budget and did not want to redo all the cabinets. When we started looking at the space, it turned out that there was no extra flooring so we could not create an island. We kept about 35% of the original cabinets, custom colormatched doors, cut down the wall behind the sink and added cabinets behind so the counters could extend past their prior space. In addition, we moved the wine bar to an unused wall behind the kitchen, plumbed a bar sink, and created a buffet area outside the kitchen. We used the old space as a breakfast bar with built in microwave.
