Zero Energy Model

This is how we like to live in this phase of our lives. Small, easy, streamlined to minimalist and of course Zero Energy with zero emissions.... and zero maintenance. Just turn the key and leave when you want to travel. Just hop on the bus, Gus, drop of the key, Lee.... I thought long and hard how I can release this on a shoestring budget for under $200K and I figured it out after 12 years of designing these homes for clients. I learned how to do this as simply and as low cost as possible without sacrificing the high standard and qualities I would never compromise on. This is in a way a radical project. Radically simple, radically stripped of anything not essential, radical in reuse of any materials (almost zero waste, the wast pile at the end of the project fit in 3 wheelbarrows) and radical in the simplicity of the mechanical systems. There is only one heat pump/ fan-coil for heating and cooling, 2 small electric on- demand water heaters, - one for the kitchen and one for the bathrooms- and a ductless heat recovery system, that's all., no mechanical room, no wasted square footage. This is entirely doable for Taosenos and can be a model for how we can live here in the future and not burn fossil fuels while helping to restore this planet. There is no gas line coming in, no propane,no natural gas, no wood stove, no fireplace It is an all electric house and did I mention? Of course we are charging an electric car. With buildings contributing to a whopping 48% of USA CO2 emissions and with the urgent call to provide a livable future for our children this is something we can do that is affordable and fun!
