The perimeter stone is actually honed pietra di cardosa, sealed/treated for a darker finish. The island slab is honed calacatta gold marble.

I have a dining area adjacent to the island...to the side. I have not picked out a fixture yet. Elsewhere will be can lights. Would 2 18inch be too large?

I heard that too, but I think it a) looks funny to have the hood wider than the range/cooktop, and b) isn't necessary if you have a decent hood/blower. Maybe with a grill you'd get more smoke, but I do plenty of searing and frying and my blower has been fine (even with the "obstruction" of a shelf above).

Thanks -- the subway tiles are just plain ol' white cheapies! Not from Home Depot but almost the same. (We compared both and thought the ones from the tile store felt a little more substantial, but they were very close.) It's the grey grout that creates the illusion.

So glad sherkelsey asked, and of course thankful to see your advice to it! I was about to get "6 LED (looks too big and ugly), but so happy to see this site before I purchase. Hi again. What were you thoughts around not having any window treatment in particular for the bay window area? I have a similar bay window/bench seat (but smaller) and need to decide if I want some kind of window treatment-maybe faux roman shade. I have two side windows along my left wall and will probably put something up bc I need privacy but the back bay window area faces the back yard and a tree takes center stage. Thanks.

Is the 12" overhand enough or do you wish it was deeper? Trying to make that decision currently. I can either extend my bar space out to 16" or double the thickness of my slab to 6cm but I can't do both. If 12" is enough that would be nice to know. Thanks!

From the picture, I would say this is a marble as opposed to a quartz. You can tell from the natural variation in color on the slab. Quartz products tend to be much more consistent throughout.

I very much like the the marble? or what name of quartz, pls. The eating area is in a great location, its' placement near the windows makes it feel like dining is outside. A+. I like the hood with the stainless shelf. Oh, and everything else! Is the wall countertops granite? Here might be a place to keep the budget down on the background countertops, solid material and edged in tile.

Subeeskitchen- I adore this kitchen you've created...just perfect, wish I could drop it in my house! Would love to know the paint colors you used on the walls and trim as well as the cabinets. Was also wondering about your subway tile, are they handmade? Or can you purchase them in a showroom, they seem to have a soft sheen to them- and is the grout a light grayish ? Love to hear!

My island and light pendants are very similar to this. We omitted the door knobs on the concealed cupboards so they look like panels. We opted for a push door effect and we are having three pendants rather than two as that size island (9') allows for an odd number. Love the bar stools

Hi jeffjamesmiller. I'm guessing those tiles are 3x6 polished white tiles (either marble or porcelain.) They're available in most tile outlets, though we carry a similar tile too.

That looks like a marble. You should look at Quartzites. Quartzite is a natural stone (as opposed to man made "quartz") quarried like granite or marble. It tends to look like marble, but is usually stronger than granite. Here are three of my favorite quartzites:

I would recommend quartz! I usually deal with Cambria(cambriausa.com) but quartz countertops have come along way with different design aspects. There are a lot of different designs to choose from some of which could come close to your marble look. My favorite from Cambria is New Quay! When choosing cambria you have available to your great customizable options in which most of the time can fit almost any budget. Futuro Futuro Kitchen Range Hoods

It's the same width, 48" from the looks of it. Depth-wise, impossible to tell from this angle, but many of the "box-style" undercabinet hoods are available in 24" - 27" depth.

Please note that with a hood that's as deep as the range, the probability of hitting one's head on it increases - which makes it necessary to place the hood higher (36" above the range at minimum) - which reduces performance - which partially defeats the purpose of having a deep range hood in the 1st place...

...this is why many European-style hoods (such as our Italian models) are made in the 18" - 20" depth range, so they can be installed in the area of maximum efficiency, without the hazard of intersecting with the chef's forehead.

Hi - Please refer back to the previously posted questions - I know there are a lot of them but all of your questions have been addressed. The cushions are quite firm - they're 3" foam wrapped in batting, and then the Sunbrella fabric holds up very well. If anything I wish they would soften a bit because they make the seat height a tiny bit too high. Definitely like having the custom cushions, though.

The chairs were from Restoration Hardware (10+ years ago). We had the slipcovers made by a local seamstress. Ordered the Sunbrella fabric from outdoorfabrics.com. Great fabric if you have kids - everything washes right out.

There are electrical strips on each short end of the island (if you zoom this picture you might be able to see them.) There are also outlets inside each short-end cabinet -- one for the stand mixer (with lift) and one for the wireless printer)

The floor is fir (from Russia, because we spec'd long boards to match the rest of the house). It's stained in Puritan Pine ( I think). Not sure I would recommend fir, though, unless you had an open floor plan like we do and were trying to match old wood. (It's VERY soft.)

We specified long boards (again to match the old floors); these came from Russia (!). 2 1/4" wide. They are stained with MinWax Puritan Pine. Be warned that fir is very very soft -- it will have a "patina" in no time. You have to be prepared for this.
