Thinking of putting brick down while remolding kitchen floor--was told could polyureathaine it but worried about the resulting smell. Need the smoothness and not the rough brick finish due to future grandbabies and tender knees. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have sealed mine with polyurethane a couple of times over 20 years. Vacuum and then mop with a string mop. Love them!

Thank you. I will certainly explore your suggestion. We did move ahead with our large brick patio project and ended up using old Simons brick outlined with sand-finished concrete. Thanks again.

i have wood in my kitchen and a wood insert in my family room of my open plan kitchen/family. Very warm and inviting. Think of it as a "wood rug", or at least that is how mine is configured. Will say maintenance of brick floor is crazy easy, sweeping and vacuuming. Difficult to mop but can steam clean. Do have trouble with grease type of stains in kitchen, brick is porous. Hope that helps. We have had ours for 15 years in our house and always get lots of compliments and comments when people see them for the first time.

Hard to tell from this angle, but it could be a White Carrara Marble or a Calcatta Marble. But it could also be a White Fantasy Quartzite (aka Super White Quartzite).

Brick. Brick is always an option for a country kitchen, as it provides a charming, rustic feel. The downside with brick is that it can feel cold underfoot and can be fatiguing for prolonged standing. Despite the hard surface, bricks (especially old ones) are quite porous and must be sealed often to protect against stains and wear. Laid in a herringbone pattern, this brick floor provides visual interest and a warm, colorful contrast to the bright white cabinetry.
