well it is sure more complicated than when it's planned from the beginning of the construction, but still you can do it with an extra cost, they will need to cut the bottom of the drywall and use a trim (there's many sizes from 1/8" being the smallest) and they apply the trim between the drywall and the baseboard creating a dividing space, then they will float and paint.

The fireplace is by Eco-Smart Fire. The fireplace uses ethanol that is contained in a small well below the flame. It might be a candidate for your condition!

The shades are by Mecho: http://www.mechoshade.com/. We framed a pocket for the shade housing to recess it into the ceiling.
