Clearly it is knotty cedar low grade, low cost boards, smooth planed (not rough sawn), 1"X4" without tongue and groove. Keep it simple, no need for fancy stuff on a barn door.

the wood is pine, best to consult a trim carpenter for specific questions about building a barn door.

hello, thank you for your kind comment, The sliding barn doors were designed by the studio (as well as the stair rail in the foreground).
The Steel was fabricated then welded onsite, The trim carpenter finished the doors once the frame was welded.

This is a clever use of this space in several ways. Not only did the designer stick bunk beds in this little niche for more sleeping space, but he also chose a wood sliding door (which melds great with the natural wood beams) to hide it. A typical door would have had to open into the tight hallway, obstructing the space (and resulting in many a stubbed toe in the night).

Maynard if you are a do it yourselfer like I am, go to tractor supply company and pay only 1/16th of what pro door folks are asking. You can prime and paint it in any color you want. They have this box style in stock at several different lengths.
