The wood siding is 6 inch tongue and groove redwood with a clear coat. If your house has a lot of sun exposure, you will need to use a colored stain so it doesn't bleach out quickly. Hope that helps!

The canopy is made from 2 pieces of low iron glass laminated together with a film between. We also used structural silicon to adhere it to the steel so we did not have to fasten through the glass. - For the previous question- the boards are 6" tongue and groove with a 1/4" V groove and they are blind-nailed between boards so you do not see any nail holes.

Steel beam - Hi Can you please share how the steel beam is treated/finished? The end result shown in this image is the exact look we're going for, but we're having a hard time figuring out how to achieve it. I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Apologies for the delay... I did not see this question come in. Outside all the steel is painted. The climate in Mill Valley, CA is fairly damp with fog and rain (at least it usually is when we are not in a drought!) so we have to contend with the rust factor. We used a paint that is a steel blue color so it looks similar to natural steel. The tube gutter in the front is made of stainless steel so does not have a finish on it. Good luck!

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Annie Thornton added this to Inside Out: Designs to Move a Party Outside
Reveal exterior points of interest. Curiosity and exploration are two key reasons people move through space. Create those features outside of your home to move your guests from inside to outside. From inside the house you can catch a glimpse of the Bertoia Chairs at the end of this hall, but in order to fully understand the space you would need to walk to the end of the path. Don't reveal too much, but spark just enough interest for people to need to see more.
John Hill added this to Breezeways: Architecture's Cool Connections
The narrow breezeway in this split-level house provides access to the two halves of the house under a glass canopy. On this top floor (the floor below is a full floor plate, so movement across the halves does not have to happen outside) the breezeway extends to become a balcony.
Houzz added this to Beam
Two steel beams support the transparent roof material of this covered walkway.
