How was the steel backsplash behind the range made to look dark and old?

I'm not so sure that is a steel backsplash. It looks to me like a Tan Brown Leathered Granite on the perimeter countertops and behind the stove.

Being in the business for over 35 yrs. the countertop is a concrete countertop with a acid stained top with a sealer .

I have purchased SEVERAL kinds of reclaimed woods from this site, www.woodplanet.com . Go thru your sign up, sign in and look to the left column , Open OTS. , offers to see , and look under Reclaimed woods or hardwood. I looked for what I wanted--with photos only.. where you can SEE what you would be getting. As well as corresponding with the sellers and having specific photos sent to you for verification. The closer to your location the lower cost on shipping and make sure you have a substantial way of unloading as some truck drivers have a limit on time and begin charging you after a 2 hour mark. I was fortunate enough to have 6 Offensive lineman form our High School football team whose parents allowed them to come to my aid.. for a nominal fee. lol Also, reclaimed wood, the Walnut I purchased which was 70 years old and full 1" rough cut with the saw marks still intact, is very HEAVY. We light sanded the wood to get the ruff off and sealed the wood. Have a wonderful , amazing color. There are several individuals I dealt with. I have the names and locations if you like. 2 are in Missouri. One of which , Mr. Chris Vannoy -- has an AMAZING selection of reclaimed Walnut barn wood, brown woods , some grey woods and walnut all reclaimed and UNDER sheds. You are able to pick and choose what you like and his prices are EXTREMELY good. I know, I did a lot of research before I bought mine and comparison shopped. if you would like the information I would be glad to share and share a few pics of my woods , Reclaimed Walnut from an old barn as well as 2 14x16 27 foot hand hewn beams , , Brownboard from an old reclaimed upstairs of a Dairy Loft , and Full cut-Rainbow Poplar trees( actual 27" width slabs) up to 23" -27" inches wide with the bark still on it , , i.e. live edge at 2.5 inches thick. have a photo of 2 slabs with the inner side squared and them dovetailed together as a table and lacquered with 10 coats. Gorgeous woods. if you would like to see. Of course delivery, finishing and sealing is all on you but for a fraction of the cost of what you could be charged. Of course there is nothing with having unended financial means of having it done and simply walking in to a finished situation but, monetarily I would rather use the excess on added things to go with my project. Kindest Regards, Shona Christy.

13. Plenty of natural light helps keep this reclaimed barn-wood-filled kitchen from being too dark. I love the slab of thick, warm wood for the island countertop. See more photos of this home

I like the wood on wood island. And some cabinets.
