6 WRM
The Warren Mews Trilogy is an architectural design led boutique development of 3 mews houses in London's West End. No.6 evolved as a programme led exercise with each floor assigned a specific use. Basement /Watch is the theme of lower ground floor whilst Ground /Eat is the subject for the Ground floor. First Floor /Work and Second Floor /Sleep complete the programming for the rest of the house.
Variance in the colour, pattern and texture within each space was introduced to differentiate the programmes. Variance was introduced either intrinsically or extrinsically. Where it is introduced intrinsically, the variance is incorporated within the fabric of the house. An example of this is the tiling pattern on the first floor. The random pattern of the floor tiles was generated by creating a 'game' for the tilers. By following the rules of the game, the tilers were able to create the whole image whilst enjoying themselves solving the puzzle in the process. Variance was introduced extrinsically when the fabric of the house interacts with objects placed within it. This is the case in the lower ground floor where the owner's curios and book collection interact with the bespoke joinery housing them creating a feature wall.
