A Harmless Kitty Cat

What began as an unexpected household mishap ultimately became an opportunity to thoughtfully restore and elevate this Southern California home. After a curious cat inadvertently turned on a kitchen faucet and flooded the lower level, the homeowners worked with Pacific Coast Builders to repair the damage and reimagine several key living spaces.

The renovation focused on rebuilding the kitchen, living room, dining area, and entry while maintaining the home’s Mediterranean-inspired architecture. In the kitchen, cream shaker cabinetry, marble countertops, and a large island create a warm and functional centerpiece for everyday living and entertaining. A patterned tile backsplash and lantern-style lighting add subtle character while keeping the palette calm and timeless.

Adjacent living and dining spaces were refreshed with new finishes, custom millwork, and updated lighting to create a cohesive open-concept layout. A linear fireplace framed with decorative blue tile introduces color and texture to the living room, while the dining area is anchored by a modern lantern chandelier that echoes the home’s architectural style.

Throughout the project, the goal was to restore the home with thoughtful upgrades that balance classic Mediterranean influences with a relaxed California aesthetic—proving that even a mischievous cat can unexpectedly lead to a beautifully renewed home.
