A Home for Him

This home was full of florals and furniture, none of it reflecting the tastes of the client or his teenage son. We painted the walls a soft grey and traded burgundy for blue, neutralizing the overwhelming red of the hardwood floor. As the household was male-only, we worked to make the spaces more masculine. Well, except for the guest room. That was specifically for Grandma.

This room was really designed around the painting. Our client fell in love with it, and it became the primary influence for the rest of the space.

Family rooms should be functional and comfortable. This one was originally very bland. We continued the blue and grey theme here, getting all new sofas and a new, leather recliner. Adding some industrial elements added a bit of fun and structure.

The kitchen nook is right off the family room, so that got some new furniture, a new area rug, and a drum light.

This dining room suits the house's occupants. It is formal enough for a party without feeling fussy. The room used to be packed with furniture, so we tried to keep it minimal without letting the home feel empty.

We chose to keep the theme from the rest of the house for the master bedroom. Blue, gray, and natural wood tones are very comforting without being overly masculine or feminine.

While the rest of the house needed to be comfortable for the guys, the guest room was readied for Grandma. We decided to make it understated but comfortable.

The space needed to be flexible, to suit the client and his son's needs. Keeping the furniture sparse but multi-functional made the most sense.

The drum table is extra storage, the chair in the corner swivels, and the TV stand has plenty of room to stash stuff away or hold movies and game consoles.
