This client had the walk in shower modified for aging in place by removing the glass doors and adding safety features such as hand bars and a bench without sacrificing aesthetics. The addition of hand bars at the entrance to the shower and in the shower provide stability. A wide bench allows for resting while washing lower extremities and minimizes slipping hazards. The open concept allows for ease of entrance even with a walker or moving from a wheelchair to the bench. The replacement of the existing shower head with a handheld or dual use shower fixture would be our only recommendation.
