Albarano Residence

Addition and alterations to an existing home for an active, busy family that loves sports and loves to entertain.

The homeowner wanted distinct entertaining areas for her sons and their friends, her husband and his friends, and her and her friends, so everyone could be entertaining simultaneously.

The result is a more open concept, better flow, more natural light, updated finishes, better storage, to suit the family's lifestyle.

The homeowner says she sometimes comes home to find friends camped out in her husband's bar, also known as "Fort Fetter," waiting for the family to get home and start the party.

The kitchen is the wife's entertaining space, where she can host her girlfriends while keeping her eye on her sons and her husband and his friends.

The formerly dark kitchen was expanded into the equally dark dining room, and opened up to the adjacent living room. The result is an incredibly functional layout for this busy family of five.

The family didn't want a formal dining room, choosing to tuck their dining table into an alcove in the kitchen. Near the table is their organizing area, where the weekly schedule and schoolwork is organized on in a handy open shelf unit.

The husband's entertaining space is adjacent to the boys' playroom. Barn doors allow the space to be closed off so mom can't see what's going on.

The husband's bar is known to family friends as "Fort Fetter." Friends will tell the family that they'll arrive at Fort Fetter at 5:30, sometimes even before the family gets home!

The boys' playroom is spacious, with lots of room for three boys and their friends to hang out and horse around. The playroom leads outside, where more fun awaits.

The former laundry room was converted to a mudroom where the family's coats and sports equipment could be organized and stored. The laundry was moved upstairs to the bedroom level. The mudroom leads to the garage and into Fort Fetter.
