These homeowners longed for a bright open space for everyday living and relaxed entertaining. A pantry, large island with seating and storage as well as a buffet area in the breakfast nook were must haves for this remodel. When opening up load bearing walls and moving doorways there are structural aspects that are not always ideal but many times unavoidable. Integrating beams, doorways and moldings into the design helps define the areas while still achieving the open flow. We created pantry space, a large functional island, took the molding to the ceiling to create height and highlighted the space with antique glass and brushed pewter hardware. The buffet is amazingly functional as well as a highlight to the design. We included dividers in the cabinets for storing serving trays as even a charging drawer to keep all of the families devises from cluttering the beautiful countertop. By pulling together form, functionality, organization and style, we were able to create the space they dreamed of.
