This Chelsea apartment interior provides a hard-working career couple and family with a refuge from the hectic pace of Manhattan urban life. The public living within this apartment occurs in a very large, open room. The design appropriates a central structural column in the room as a core off of which more intimate living and dining spaces unfold.

The lighting design takes existing architectural constraints to build a system of illuminated beams – both glowing beams on the ceiling and a solid beam spilling out light on the adjacent wall - to infuse the room with warmth and a sense of hearth.

Asian design influences and a soft color palette convey a sense of serenity, and seating is designed to provide maximum comfort in dining, living and lounging areas.
