Azure Penthouse

Today at the Azure, located on the Upper East Side in New York, The Junior League is pleased to present James Rixner’s New Urban Chic interiors. The Azure Penthouse is a unique opportunity to see the creative work of one of New York’s most talented design professionals.
James’ philosophy: “I approach all my projects with a painterly eye: color, texture and light are among the most important elements in a well-executed room. I have designed these rooms to accentuate the impressive scale and beautiful architecture of the Azure.”
Penthouse A spans 2,620 square feet, with a 390-square-foot southwest-facing terrace and is a bold welcoming villa in the sky. This home has regal living spaces comprising of 11-foot floor-to-ceiling windows, which yield sweeping East River, southern cityscape and Central Park Views. James’ artfully designed drapery treatments enable the visitor to focus on these amazing views as well as camouflage the structural columns of the room. The piece de resistance is the show stopping Zenith chandelier by Baccarat in the dining room. The table is beautifully set with Christofle’s newest collection, Jardin D’Eden. The living spaces include a mix of eclectic furniture pieces by Christopher Guy, Century Furniture and Côté France upholstered in stunning contemporary fabrics in shades of sterling silver and granite grey with lacquer red accents transforming this minimalistic space into an elegant home. The living room houses an open furniture arrangement to highlight the gracious proportions and create the perfect entertaining space. James and Elizabeth Sadoff were the curators of the dramatic collection of contemporary American art showcased throughout the Penthouse.
Each of the three bedrooms is a retreat designed with a specific occupant in mind. The master suite, of course, is where the owners would reside. Here he has focused on creating a relaxing environment by utilizing a calm, carefully edited color palette. The center bedroom with its hot citrus palette is designed to excite the imagination- as witnessed by the dramatic artwork from Michael Filan, “Moon in Woods”. The occupant of this room is an active young college woman who visits frequently. The bedroom at the end of the hall is designed with a masculine palette and evokes a rich, woody ambiance.
