B RESIDENCE is a 1,900 sf unit located within a condominium complex which had originally been designed in 1977 by Bialosky Cleveland. The occupant, a wheelchair user, sparked us to challenge the myth that accessible design cannot be poetic.

The solution became to create an open, contemporary environment using Universal Design principles that empowered the resident’s independence and minimizes maintenance resulting in improved quality of life for the user.

Inspired by the idea of empowering the user to be comfortable and independent in the space, a warm inviting, yet durable, material pallet was chosen. Resilient wood plank flooring brings a light earthy texture throughout the kitchen and dining room. ADA stainless steel appliances work in harmony with the clean lines of the millwork and countertops. Improved lighting throughout allows for better user control, and a new art-gallery wall.
