Bide-a-Wee

The landscape of this historic log cabin on a wooded site needed an update to reflect how the owners use the site. We created a new entry arbor, pool terrace and outdoor dining area, added walks and landscaping. A large lawn area was converted to meadow to attract wildlife and engage the surrounding woods.

Constructed of cedar and copper tubing, this entry arbor serves as a gateway to a rustic log cabin and its grounds.

The rustic pergola and a majestic Wisteria vine create a memorable entrance into the site, welcoming guests to the cabin.

This built-in grill and countertop anchor one end of the cabin's outdoor dining space. A cedar pergola provides shade and visually ties the stone terrace to the architecture.

The existing pool was surrounded by lawn and it felt a mile away from the house. We extended an irregular stone patio with grass joints from the house to the pool, in effect enlarging the pool "deck". Pockets of planting break up the space and help to create separate outdoor 'rooms'.

Native wildflowers and grasses now occupy a meadow behind the house. The guests enjoy seeing birds, butterflies, deer, and even fox frequent what was once just mowed lawn.

A simple teak dining table occupies one half of the covered patio space. The pergola and existing trees provide dappled shade, creating a cool, comfortable atmosphere for afternoon cocktails!

Vines planted at the base of the pergola cause this already charming space to be constantly evolving. Beautiful blooms cover the Wisteria in the spring, visually tying it back to the entry pergola and the property's entry.
