All-Tile Mosaic Pool with Ornamental Scrollwork

Every interior surface of this pool is hand-cut glass mosaic — floor, walls, steps, benches and spa. White and gold scrollwork is worked into a deep blue field, with a medallion on the floor and matching detail carried onto the step risers and the spa wall.

Each tessera is cut to fit the drawing rather than the drawing being fitted to stock tile, which is what lets the scroll hold a true curve at full size. Fabricated in the studio and delivered paper-faced in numbered sections keyed to a full-size layout drawing; the tile setter set it.

How it goes in: the mosaic arrives face-mounted on paper in numbered sections keyed to a full-size layout drawing. The setter beds each section in turn, then the paper is wetted and peeled away.
