Bowden House
This is the Bowden House as built. I think it's interesting to look at the 'bijillions' of before ideas that led to this final product!
My favorite parts are:
1. Calming 'latte' colored smooth trowel finish stucco call 'santa barbara finish'. I like how the stucco carries over into the underside of the roof (soffit) to give a continuous surface to the house and sense of simplicity.
2. The concrete 'Entry Portal' that is really a shear wall that substitutes for using Simpson strong walls.
3. The indoor-outdoor feeling from front entry patio to great room to the back private patio. You can stand on the entry patio and look into and through the house into open space. This gives a constant connection to nature.
4. High ceilings lend a sense of grandness to a small house or room because they create movement in the upper plane.
5. High windows give you a view of the sky when combined with a single slope roof. Gable roofs hold views to a lower sight line. A single slope roof allows views to be taken higher and into the sky.
