The day after the first time homebuyers bought this town house- they started to gut it. Room by room they loved the overall floor plan but the finishes were worn and tired. The first decision made was that the main floor needed to be replaced.
Hardwood floors are never a good option when the foundation is a concrete slab. There are many issues with moisture and small cracks in the slab that can be expensive to repair. They wanted a product that would be low maintenance yet upgraded. As seen in the before photos- the tile was dated and the homeowners wanted a tile that was traditional, warm and updated. They selected a 6x24 rectified Italian porcelain tile in a rich chocolate color and they decided to have the tile installed in a diagonal herringbone pattern.

Having the right installers can make or break an installation. This tile is rectified and made to be installed with tight grout joints. It is also very important to have a high quality thinset in an application like this one. As you can see, we were able to tile over tile on this particular job because the original tile was solid and there were no slab issues.

Once the handsome floor was complete, the staircase needed some TLC. We decided to completely replace the existing with higher/longer balusters, handrails and newel. By staining the treads a rich espresso and painting the risers bright white- these stairs make quite the first impression.
