Brockloch Tree House
The House in the Trees is a romantic off grid retreat for two. Two timber and corrugate clad pods sit atop eleven larch pole legs, their walls perforated by more than fifty tiny windows which let in the dappled woodland light; the pods are crowned by two large roof lights. The cosy interior is lined in spruce with bathroom with sunken bath and full width solid oak flooring. The small pod has a fitted roof light above; in the larger pod, a hand-built, freestanding kitchen, with cabinet, drawers, double hob, fridge and butler sink, sits in front of an eye level recessed window. At the opposite end, the built in double bed with storage drawers sits under a second full width roof light - perfect for stargazing. Recycled dining table and chairs are painted to evoke sun and moonlight through windows and are inspired by the tiny, individually painted, box framed double glazed windows which allow in the dappled light and frame the countryside and woodland views. Larger openings and shelves cleverly echo the windows and slot into the walls. Light and power is provided by solar panels and the house is heated by a wood burning stove which sits on a cantilevered slate plinth in a tiled, slot fireplace. A third pod is perched below to service the compost toilet and hold batteries and gas bottle. Photos by echo living
