Builder's Grade Becomes Spa Master Bath

After looking at six other builders, MAC Design + Build was chosen for an extreme bathroom makeover. The original space was a standard, builder's grade master bathroom - white, dated, and a little crooked in some places. Though limited by a wall that once cut off the shower and central location of the windows right in the middle of the room, MAC Design + Build was able to create an open and inviting bathroom retreat.

This master bathroom was once closed off by a bulky third wall to the shower. The wall, which cut off access to the windows, was removed bringing in more light and opening up the layout of the entire bathroom.

This spa-inspired master bathroom has two unique features. One is the heated floors beneath the simulated wood ceramic tile.

The other unique feature is the double shower with a rain head and hand-held head. All plumbing fixtures in the room are Moen with a chrome-style finish.

The knee wall behind the bathtub is topped with a marble slab and trimmed with glass mosaic tile. Similar tile is used in the shower waterfall accent.

The angled shower ceiling was carefully leveled and matched at its meeting point. To make the shower even more of a feature, flat top river rock was used in the flooring and the owners chose to include corner storage shelves as wella s a storage niche.

The original central location of the windows was the only available option for the master bathroom. But the design selections, such as glass tile, magnified the available light and made the space to feel more open.

The double sink vanity has a marble top with glass tile backsplash. The design originally incorporated four sconces, until the owners settled on three. The vanity itself is a custom build drawn specifically for the space.
