We're 15+ months into a project with MAC Design and Build (Ashburn, Virginia) and our experience so far has been quite disappointing. The original scope included replacing cabinets and countertops in the kitchen and several other rooms, as well as redesigning the primary bathroom and replacing the fireplace surround. Stay tuned.

We are currently "mid-project" with MAC so I can only comment on the Design process, but THAT is what won them our business. We met with several companies to get estimates and this is where MAC shined. Other companies saw problems in our kitchen space, but our designer Maria saw opportunity. She took the "negatives" and figured out how to make them positives! She never ran from the challenge. She listened to everything we wanted to do with our space, combined them with her design expertise and we couldn't be more excited to see the final result. NOTE: This review is related to the design phase only. We engaged MAC for a complete remodel of our kitchen, and will update this review once the contruction work is complete. Our experience in the design phase was so good, that we wanted to get that information out there now even though the actual install is not yet complete. We were introduced to Senior Designer Maria Williams at MAC Design & Build through a mutual friend. The project started with an initial meet & greet so we could go over the scope of our kitchen remodel project. Maria asked us to bring along some images that reflected the style and mood of what we were hoping for, so she could incorporate that into her design. She also took detailed mesaurements and even used some sort of a laser scanner to capture a 3D model of the space. About a week later, Maria sent us a link to a personalized website that displayed a 3D rendering of her proposal. I'm guessing that the image was based on the 3D laser scanner that she used, because to the eye, it is a near perfect virtual replication of the room's dimensions. The 3D rendering allowed us to "move" throughout the room and see how the new cabinets, island, and appliances would look inside of the new space. In addition, Maria took great care to capture the style that we were going for (Transitional) and modeled appropriate mouldings, baseboards, cabinet faces, stone surfaces, and lighting. She clearly loves what she does as it showed through in her design elements and rendering. In addition to the 3D model, Maria also presented us with 2D blueprint-like overheads and profile views so we could verify measurements and have an alternative perspective. Once we ok'd all the dimensions, we met Maria at a countertop showroom to pick out actual countertop slabs and backsplash elements. We next met her at a lighting showroom, where we picked out custom pendandts. In both cases, Maria worked to accomodate our schedule (we are a married couple and each of us have full time jobs). She also listened carefully to our desires and presented us with options that stayed within the design style that we discussed. I often say that I can't create a good looking room, but I know when a room looks good. Maria knows how to do the first part. She's got a keen eye that matches a near endless set of combinations into a few suggestions that marry up beautifully together. On top of that, she has a terrific personality that is customer-focused and I noticed that she listened carefully to our wish list. We're so very pleased with her design work and give her our highest recommendation. I hope the work executed by MAC is equally high. We'll update once the project is complete.

We worked with several of the MAC staff on a custom home design and land consulting. They are a top notch team from the first email. Always working like it is their own home and providing a great service. They are ready with lots of ideas to make your dream become reality.

When seeking a design firm to remodel our large outdated kitchen, we searched for a company that would create a unique and dramatic outcome. The design was complicated and required sophisticated and experienced designers, engineers and procurement crews. MAC design listened to all our wish list items, incorporated almost all of them, but offered their own dramatic design inputs and ways to achieve our goals in more cost effective ways - they took our dreams and brought them to life. Many companies we spoke with said they could do anything we wanted. But from the beginning, MAC took the time and effort to develop the true feel for what we wanted, and then meshed that with their own design skills to create a contemporary AND practical kitchen - not simply executing whatever we thought might work or be interesting. We certainly were prepared to pay what it takes to achieve our goals, but MAC inserted reality into the process, often proposing solutions that saved us considerable sums in various areas. All members of the MAC team were dedicated to their tasks, often going the extra mile to get an aspect just right vs. adopting an easy, off the shelf solution. With their experience and contacts, they were even able to have custom items fabricated that were more cost effective than off the shelf. Pro lol the front end appears that way but when the work starts if it ever dose at the time said the workers cant speak English don't show up for work and when they are working its a mess and for me its taken so long i watched 3 new townhouses built and finished and our kitchen/mud room still under construction. the mgr cant even control the quality which sucks bad nicks n cuts ect...

Choosing a builder is not easy, and we were completely new to the process, but we could not be happier with our choice of MAC Design & Build. We had a very large project which included moving the location of all the utilities, knocking out two walls, adding about 500 square feet, totally remodeling my sad, old kitchen, and creating a suite, including a master bath, for my 85 year-old mother. Right from the start I got a good feeling from Derek because he was willing to listen to our ideas, was very kind when he needed to tell us why one of our ideas wouldn't work, and in general was never condescending or dismissive. Mark, the architect was able to give us what we needed despite some challenges from the existing layout and Dave found answers when inevitable surprise problems popped up. Karen, our decorator, was a life saver; her knowledge of what would work and what wouldn't saved me countless hours of searching for every item from appliances to door knobs. All of the subcontractors were knowledgeable and courteous and if there ever was any questions or issues, Dave was right there to take care of it. The end result is, well, gorgeous. Thanks to MAC Design & Build, my Mom now has her own beautiful space in our home and I have the beautiful, functional kitchen I always wanted.

I highly recommend MAC Design + Build for your home improvement needs. My family and I had a huge undertaking. We needed to take a 1600 sq. ft. home and more than double the size while we all still lived in the house ... our family of 7 plus our dog! It definitely had its challenges, but I will say, the end results were amazing! We were able to stay in our premium location and add so much value to our property with a gourmet kitchen, deluxe master bathroom, wrap around porch, and tons of additional space! The initial draw to the team was obviously price. They hit out of the park by meeting my budget. The project manager was very considerate of our time and space. He did everything in his power to try to make is comfortable for all of us as we lived through the whole construction mess from building temporary walls to cleaning up their daily mess. Their design team was great! I loved how they listened to what I wanted/needed and came back with a whole slew of options/alternatives. I loved working with them so much that I brought them back to build my deck and outdoor living space! DEFINTELY THE A-TEAM!!!

MAC Design + Build did a whole house renovation for a townhouse property and secured all the requisite permits. Their team was always professional, and meet all schedules promised. When we hit a few conditions that we were not anticipating, they were quick to provide options as well as costs and we were able to keep the job on track. I'd recommend them to anyone!
